This article walks you through the steps involved for configuring domain import.

Contents

Step 1. Configuring domain registrars

Step 2. Configuring top-level domains (TLD)

The table lists the majority of TLDs, however you may need to add a new second-level domain.

Consider the example below on how to correctly configure the second-level domain ком.рф.

1) Add a TLD. Type ком.рф into the "Name" field (it will be saved in punycode in the base).

2) Choose a registrar. If you choose "Not served", you will need to specify it in the package properties form.

3) Select “Only IDN” for the IDN, as you cannot register a domain using the Latin alphabet letters, such as exemple.ком.рф (choose "Does not support", if you may use only the Latin alphabet letters; choose "Supports", if you may use both the Latin alphabet letters and letters of any other national alphabet).

4) Leave the "Whois host name" field blank, because we do not use the Whois service. Note: provide a host name that will be passed to whois using the -h key, for example, “whois.ripn.net” for RF.

5) Leave the "Whois response " field blank. If you use Whois, this response will be used for searching a domain name. If found, the domain is available and you may register it. If not, the domain is not available.

Domain availability is checked on the second step of the domain registration process.

6) Registration for not more than one year: while making an order and renewing an existing domain a customer will be able to choose a period that does not exceed one year. For example, .ru domains.

7) Transfer without renewal. A customer will be charged for transfer in the same way as for renewal, i.e. free transfer. For example, su. domains.

Step 3. Configuring packages

Configure packages in the same manner as other services. The only difference is that you will need to provide a TLD and registrar, if you did not do this while configuring a TLD.

If different registrars are specified in the TLD and package properties, the registrar's properties will be applied, and you will be able to create several packages with different registrars and prices for one zone.

Enabling Whois Protect

To allow clients to order Whois Protect for their domain name, complete the following steps:

  • Go to the "Item types" module -- select "Domain name" and click "Configuration". Make sure the add-on called "Privacy Protection" is active for this domain.
  • In the Domain name service package create an add-on of the above type. Billing type = "Based on order" , Value type = "Boolean (Yes/No)"

Step 4. Registering and transferring domains

After everything has been setted up, customers may register domains. The procedure for domain registration and transfer includes:

1) selecting the operation (registration or transfer).
2) entering a domain name.
The domain availability is checked on this stage. Note. You cannot register a domain that is not available; you cannot transfer a domain that is not registered.
3) providing contact information.
A customer may choose either an existing contact or create a new one. Contact data for different TLDs may vary. For example, a .com domain requires the generic contact type; .ru, .su, .рф domains need "individual" or "company" contact type. Note, some registrars may require different contact types for the same domain zones.
4) choosing domain's NS-servers.
5) effecting payment.

Once the domain registration request is sent to registrar:

1) The registrar will accept and process your domain registration request. In practice you domain name may not be registered due to certain reasons.
2) An error will occur because:
а) the registrar does not respond, connection error. You will need to check connection to the registrar's gateway.
б) the registrar will return the invalid data error. You will need to correct information, mainly contact data.
A customer will be informed about errors through banners on the toolbar and trouble ticket system (email). After you have corrected all the data, click the Retry icon to send a new registration request.

Additional information

Processing domains

If the domain has the "In-progress" (the domain is being registered, renewed, transferred, etc.) or "Not deligated" status, the system prompts a registrar for a current status and expiration date. Once the registrar confirms that the domain has been registered, deligated and renewed, the system will set the "Active" status and the domain's expiration date.

Cron commands:
0 */1 * * * /usr/local/ispmgr/sbin/cron.sh sbin/mgrctl -m billmgr domain.hourly status=5 - for domains that are being processed.
30 */1 * * * /usr/local/ispmgr/sbin/cron.sh sbin/mgrctl -m billmgr domain.hourly status=3. - for non-deligated domains.

Automatic renewal

15 days prior to the domain expiration date, a customer will get a renewal notification. If automatic renewal was set, and a customer has sufficient funds on his personal account, the domain will be renewed automatically.
