Remote DNS (VDSmanager)

DNSmanager is a software product that is installed on a slave name server and automates creation of domain names.

Name server is a DNS-server, that keeps domain information that may be required for some purposes. Normally, two or more name servers are specified for each domain, thus if one of them is not available, the other can be used instead. These servers are specified when registering a domain name.

The "Remote DNS" module can be used to manage a list of DNSs with installed DNSmanager. You may perform various operations over the list of servers: add new servers, edit and view their properties, delete, or provide flexible settings in other to separate private and provider's name servers.

View information about remote name servers

  • Remote server IP address - ip-address of the remote name server.
  • Private NS - remote server with DNSmanager is used for private name server.
  • Provider NS - remote server with DNSmanager is used for provider's name servers.

Register new server

To add a new remote server, click the "Register" icon and fill out the form:

  • Remote server address - enter an address of a remote server with DNSmanager installed.
  • Username - enter a user's login to access DNSmamager.
  • Password - enter a password to access DNSmanager.
  • Apply for private NS - check the box to create NS, that are based on VPS name, on a remote servers. чтобы создавать на внешнем сервере имен NS, основанные на имени VPS.
  • Apply for provider NS - check the box to create NS, that are based on the provider's domains, on a remote server.
  • Name server domain - if the Apply for provider NS checkbox is selected, specify a domain name of a provider's name server.

Edit server parameters

To edit the remote server parameters, select it from the list, click the "Edit" icon and fill out the form. Form for editing is similar to the form for registering new remote server.

Delete remote server

To cancel integration of VDSmanager with DNS server, select the remote server from the list and click the "Delete" icon. To avoid accidental deletion the system prompts you for confirmation. Clicking "OK" cancels the integration.

View remote server parameters

To view the remote server parameters, select it from the list ans click the "Parameters" icon. In the following form you can view or modify the required data:

  • Private DNS limit - specify the limit on the number of record on name servers when using private DNS servers.
  • Provider DNS limit - specify the limit on the number of DNS records when using provider DNS servers.
